SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Riverstone Networks, Inc. (RSTN.PK) is demonstrating the interoperability, resiliency, Quality of Service (QoS) and multicast capabilities of both its Riverstone 15008 and 15100 carrier Ethernet routers at this year's interoperability event at MPLS World Congress in Paris, February 7-10. As part of the demonstration, Riverstone is showing its ability to support high-quality business and residential triple-play services reliably within a multi-vendor MPLS network.

Fifteen vendors are participating in the interoperability event, which was organized by the European Advanced Networking Test Center (EANTC) in cooperation with the University of New Hampshire and the MFA Forum. The demonstration illustrates the effectiveness of an MPLS infrastructure in delivering converged services with SONET-like resiliency, end-to-end traffic engineering, dynamic bandwidth allocation and guaranteed service delivery.

The Riverstone 15000 product line combines the carrier-grade reliability and QoS of MPLS with its own high-availability software design to enable service providers to deliver the Quality of user Experience necessary for the success of such services as VoIP, IPTV and multimedia wireless services. Riverstone's high-availability design features both a modular OS to prevent the occurrence of software failures and hitless protection software to quickly recover from them, thereby avoiding service disruptions.

Riverstone's routers feature hierarchical QoS (HQoS) to address service quality at not only the network level, but also at the subscriber level to ensure the quality of each of an end-user's multiple services.

Riverstone's routers also feature hierarchical VPLS (HVPLS) to extend the capabilities of MPLS-based Ethernet so that service providers have the added scalability needed to serve millions of subscribers dependably. In addition, HVPLS pushes video packet replications for multicasting further out to the edge, scaling the delivery of high quality video services more economically.
