Telstra buys Marconi ServiceOn Optical Management System to manage nationwide Australian SDH transmission network

SYDNEY and LONDON -- Marconi (MONI) today announced it has secured a multi-million dollar contract to install its network management system to help Telstra Corporation manage its nationwide SDH transmission network in Australia.Marconi will supply software and migrate data from Telstra's network layer and transmission recording and control system. Marconi will be supplying the data migration service in addition to ongoing support services.The implementation of ServiceOn Optical Management System will allow Telstra to easily trace core network faults to the root cause and promptly restore service disruptions. ServiceOn Optical Management System will also provide Telstra with statistical information on its SDH transmission network performance and the ability to automatically re-route services in customer outage situations. ServiceOn Optical Management System is in use with more than 100 telecommunications service providers around the world, including a number in Australia and New Zealand. When completed later this year, Telstra will be one of Marconi's biggest worldwide ServiceOn Optical Management installations. Telstra's General Manager, Integrated Network Solutions, David Piltz said ServiceOn Optical Management System will be Telstra's new interface to the thousands of Marconi manufactured SDH nodes deployed in Telstra's fibre optic network. Commenting on the signing, Paul Butcher, Managing Director, Marconi Australia, said: "Telstra's network is one of the world's largest built on Marconi technology.
