MURRAY HILL, N.J. -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) today announced executive changes that will help support the expansion of its global business development efforts. Jim Brewington, formerly president of Lucent's Mobility Solutions business, has been named president of the company's new Developing Markets group, and Cindy Christy has been appointed president of the company's Mobility business, effective immediately.

Jim Brewington will now lead a newly formed group focused on pursuing new business opportunities globally.

"We have a keen focus on expanding our revenue base to include new revenue sources and have been aggressively pursuing opportunities with the government, in services, and in additional markets outside of the U.S.," said Lucent Technologies Chairman and CEO Patricia Russo. "I've asked Jim to lead a cross-Lucent effort on increasing our global business. Jim has played a crucial role in opening up new markets for Lucent in recent years and throughout his career. His knowledge of the global communications market -- combined with his unmatched ability to identify the right business opportunities for Lucent -- makes him the perfect match for this critical effort."

Russo added, "Jim has done a tremendous job of building our Mobility business and was the driver behind our global leadership in third generation technologies. We'll continue to benefit from his deep customer relationships and vast knowledge of the mobility business, as some of our near-term international new market opportunities are in the wireless area. He will continue to support existing key customer relationships while at the same time allowing Lucent's wireline and services businesses to benefit from his experience and efforts."

Cindy Christy was formerly chief operating officer of Lucent's Mobility Solutions Group, and as president will now have responsibility for driving overall business operations to bring end-to-end mobile networking solutions to service providers worldwide. She will report to Russo.

"Cindy has worked hand-in-glove with Jim during the past several years and is the logical choice to take on this role. Her strong customer relationship skills, industry knowledge as well as her management, operations and leadership experience make her perfectly suited to step into this expanded responsibility, " said Russo. "She will continue to drive the business forward as we grow our global market leadership position in supplying best-in- class mobile network solutions and as the industry moves toward an untethered world of converged voice, data and multimedia services."
