Lucent Has 5 New International Labs

Has opened new Bell Labs facilities in Australia, China, Greece, India, and Italy within the past eight months

MURRAY HILL, N.J. -- As part of its continuing efforts to move resources closer to customers and to work with the most skilled talent available, Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU - news) announced that it has opened five new Bell Labs facilities -- in Australia, China, Greece, India and Italy within -- the past eight months. With these five new laboratories, Lucent Technologies now has a research and development (R & D) presence in 30 countries and 30,000 people. These facilities allow Lucent to recruit the world most skilled R&D experts in developing broadband and mobile Internet technologies including optical, data and wireless solutions with the professional services and software to support them.

"Establishing these facilities demonstrates Lucent's long-term commitment to moving our research and development resources closer to our growing global customer base," says Arun Netravali, president of Bell Labs. "It also allows us to hire the talented minds if scientific researchers around the world, who are critical to our success."
