MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- The Linley Group, in collaboration with The Tolly Group, today announced the availability of LinleyBench 2002, the company's first performance test suite for network processors. The Linley Group also announced that it has selected The Tolly Group as the exclusive provider of certification services for LinleyBench 2002. The new test suite builds on the efforts of the Network Processing Forum (NPF), deriving a functional baseline from that group's IPv4 forwarding benchmark implementation agreement. The LinleyBench 2002 test suite goes beyond basic IPv4 forwarding, however, which tests only a small portion of the capabilities of modern NPUs. DiffServ classification and marking have been added, as well as optional ATM-IPv4 interworking tests. Network processor vendors may choose to self-publish results, adhering to strict disclosure rules, or to have their results certified by The Tolly Group. "The network-processor industry has been badly in need of performance tests that OEMs can trust." said Linley Gwennap, president and principal analyst of The Linley Group. "We have responded to this need by creating an independent specification backed by The Tolly Group, the most trusted name in network-performance testing." The Linley Group worked with AMCC, IBM, Intel, Motorola, and The Tolly Group in developing LinleyBench 2002. Using a streamlined review process, LinleyBench 2002 was developed in only two months time. The first LinleyBench 2002 results will be announced at Network Processors Conference West on October 25, 2002. Linley Group Tolly Group
