AUSTIN, Texas -- Layer N Networks announced today that the cryptographic algorithms used in the LNN2010 UltraLock Security Processor have been certified by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for use in high-security Federal Information Processing Standards Publications (FIPS) applications. This means that customers using UltraLock in their systems can be assured of meeting FIPS requirements for cryptographic algorithms, particularly those used in the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocols.

The Layer N algorithm certification covers symmetric data encryption algorithms including Data Encryption Standard (DES), 3DES, and the new Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). A certificate has also been issued for the Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA-1), which is used in SSL and TLS to ensure message authenticity.

Layer N also announced that their line of UltraLock security products has received Retail export classification from the US Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS). This allows Layer N the most flexibility in exporting UltraLock SSL off-load solutions to foreign commercial firms and government end-users.

"Receiving FIPS certification is an important milestone for our company," said Rick Hall, director of marketing at Layer N Networks. "This clears the way for customers to use UltraLock in products requiring FIPS 140-2 or Common Criteria (CC) certification. Achieving Retail Export status is complementary to FIPS certification because our customers can provide UltraLock to the widest international audience. It's further evidence of our commitment to provide the most comprehensive, easy-to-use SSL/TLS off-load solution to the market. "
