WASHINGTON -- Alcatel ((Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) – today announced its service router has been given top marks after rigorous independent performance evaluation by the Isocore Internetworking Laboratory. The Isocore test results validate the unique ability of the Alcatel 7750 Service Router (SR) to scale services with uncompromised performance and flawless stability under extreme conditions. The results also differentiate the Alcatel 7750 SR from "best-effort", Internet-era platforms that simply can't offer the same performance or system characteristics which are critical when supporting new service infrastructure rollouts such as Triple-Play (i.e., offering voice, high-speed Internet services and video over a single IP/MPLSnetwork.)

The primary goal of the test was to demonstrate the performance, scalability and stability of the Alcatel 7750 SR and to verify that it fulfils the most stringent requirements for next generation service deployments. The Alcatel service router repeatedly demonstrated excellent stability throughout all tests. For example, it remained stable while supporting over 11,000 concurrent active service instances, and during the transition of thousands of Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) peers for thousands of services with millions of routes, multiple times over. This proven stability is a real-world challenge as triple play services are rolled out in metropolitan areas. Isocore also validated the 7750 SR's unique ability to scale bandwidth, service instances and policies together with robust routing capabilities with no impact on performance regardless of the test scenario.

"The Alcatel 7750 SR is a new category of platform that exceeds the requirements we have developed with the help of service providers," said Dr. Bijan Jabbari, president of Isocore. "The complexity and extreme nature of the tests conducted during the six-week test period, together with the number of iterations, provided us with ample empirical evidence to draw our conclusions. We are comfortable validating the Alcatel 7750 SR's overall state-of-the-art routing and Layer 2 and Layer 3 service capabilities, and are confident the product will allow service providers to activate a new generation of high-performance IP-based services."

"The Isocore test is independent validation of the performance and scaling claims that we've made for the Alcatel 7750 SR." said Basil Alwan, president of Alcatel's IP activities. "The results confirm the leading routing and service scaling capabilities of the Alcatel portfolio and prove that service capabilities and system characteristics must be designed as part of the architecture, at inception. The purpose-built software and hardware architecture of the 7750 SR that enables this scaling and performance uniquely positions Alcatel for new generation service deployments, such as Triple Play, which our customers are under continuous pressure to offer in the face of relentless competition."
