BEIJING -- China Netcom Beijing and Huawei Technologies jointly announced today that over 1 million ports C&C08 SPC switches had been operating excellently in Beijing, the Capital City of China, without a single mistake, during the whole year of 2003, making it clear evidence once again that Huawei’s C&C08 switches have a supreme quality, taking into consideration the performance of the overall equipments deployed in China Netcom Beijing’s current network.

As a comparatively late comer that entered the Beijing market in as late as 1997, C&C08 SPC switches have now proved to become one of the best, if not the best, brands in this most important market of China. The joint announcement of C&C08 switch’s excellent performance in the Beijing market today shows that Huawei’s quality control process of both R&D and production has reached a world-leading level. More importantly, this is really significant for operators to reduce their maintenance cost and lower their CAPEX in today’s competitive market environments.

Huawei launched its self-designed C&C08 large capacity SPC switches in 1996 and its 32-model centralized module-structured SPC switches to support 100,000 subscribers in 1997 and then, after strict testing and on-site trials, put them into initial application the same year in Beijing, a market where Siemens, Alcatel Shanghai Bell and Nortel were dominating at that time. In the past a few years, C&C08 switch has quickly spread into the Beijing market and has managed to become the main-stream equipment in this important market, providing rich services for government agencies, enterprises, universities, hospitals, hotels and nearly 100 residential areas in the Capital City of China.

Today there are over 20 sets of C&C08 SPC switches running on the network of China Netcom Beijing with a capacity of over 1 million ports and 50% of the subscribers are group business users, providing functions such as code billing, self-service management, AO/DI leased lines, secretary service, hotel service, mobile office, voice-mail and converged enterprise solution etc.

Mr. Liu Jiangfeng, Senior VP of Huawei Technologies, attended the press conference and further stressed Huawei’s commitment to working more closely with China Netcom Beijing to provide even better service and give the latter a significant edge over its rivals in developing creative, tailor-made services and bringing them to market quickly. “Given our high quality, reliable product and excellent service and our accumulated experience and expertise in the fixed network area, we believe that we can enhance the competitiveness of China Netcom Beijing in this competitive market,” he said.
