MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Ditech Communications Corporation, (Nasdaq: DITC), a leader in the development of voice processing solutions for communications networks, today introduced the Packet Voice Processor™, an advanced voice processing platform designed to enable carriers to deploy universal transcoding and toll-quality VoIP services.

Ditech’s Packet Voice Processor™ offers the industry’s most scalable solution for the transcoding of a broad array of compressed voice codecs, a critical challenge for VoIP equipment deployed at the edge or border of the IP backbone. Integrated with Ditech’s VQA™ software, the Packet Voice Processor™ overcomes voice quality impairments, such as acoustic echo and voice level imbalances, introduced in end-devices. The Packet Voice Processor™ incorporates Ditech’s new Packet Quality Assurance™ (PQA™) technology, which reduces the effects of packet loss, delay, and jitter to dramatically improve call quality and clarity. Additionally, the Packet Voice Processor™ provides comprehensive, standards-based voice quality monitoring capabilities to enable carriers to screen traffic for impairments and to meet service level agreements as they interconnect with other providers.

The Packet Voice Processor™ is based on a high capacity packet system incorporating Ditech’s new high density media processing subsystems. The system can be configured for up to 16 gigabit Ethernet ports and can scale up to 50,000 transcoding and/or voice processing calls per rack in a fully redundant configuration. The Packet Voice Processor™ supports current VoIP standards including the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). A scalable solution for universal transcoding and superior voice quality, Ditech’s Packet Voice Processor™ enables carriers to reduce capital expenditures and minimize the substantial upgrade costs to other network border elements.

“Ditech has proven it can meet the highest demands of service, quality, and availability in the circuit-switched world.” said Tim Montgomery, president and CEO of Ditech Communications. “Now we’re applying those same disciplines to the Voice-over-IP arena. In addition to our expertise in developing high-performance voice processing platforms, we’ve leveraged our knowledge of our customers and their requirements. Ditech has already deployed voice platforms in tier one carriers who are now transforming into Voice-over-IP service providers. We enter this market as a company with an excellent reputation for building and supporting carrier-grade products.”

Continued Montgomery, “While the Packet Voice Processor incorporates Ditech’s technical and commercial strengths, we also had the advantage of starting with a clean sheet of paper. We’re launching a product that is purpose-built to solve specific issues at the edge of the Voice-over-IP backbone network. We have developed a sophisticated, powerful, and scalable voice processing platform and have worked with key service providers in designing and validating the product. This is a bold move to expand Ditech Communications’ role in carrier networks as they evolve to VoIP.”
