HELSINKI -- An independent survey of telecommunication operators carried out on behalf of Comptel Corporation, a leading convergent mediation, charging and provisioning software provider, reveals that up to 33 per cent of operators said they use Comptel InstantLink® to provision services belonging to more than one of the groups: mobile, fixed or cable.

Market research company Proffcom conducted 59 web-based and telephone surveys of operators using Comptel’s provisioning solution for their subscriber and service activation and provisioning to the network and IT systems. The respondents reflected Comptel’s customer base: 60 per cent from Europe, Middle East and Africa, 20 per cent from the Americas and 20 per cent from Asia-Pacific.

Operators were asked to select the services for which they use Comptel InstantLink among 24 services grouped under mobile, fixed and cable categories that ranged from television to VoIP. Mobile 2G and telephony services topped the list, closely followed by content and value added services (VAS), and messaging. Also number portability and managed corporate services, such as VPN and video conferencing, received high ratings. Among the frequently mentioned expansion areas were content, VAS, VoIP, WLAN/WiFi, Push-to-Talk and provisioning of handsets in real time over the air (OTA) as they are discovered. These results are very much in line with Comptel’s overall strategy for use of its provisioning in various communications areas.

“We are pleased to see that Comptel InstantLink is a convergent, multi-purpose provisioning solution and it has also been taken up by cable operators. This confirms our expectations for the market development of increasing convergence requirements. When developing the solution, Comptel anticipated that operators would move away from the ‘stove-pipe’ or ‘one-system-per-service’ approach,“ says Markku Järvenpää, Senior Vice President, Provisioning Business Division, Comptel Corporation.
