SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Caspian Networks, Inc. is pleased to announce Silicon Valley networking executive Bradford (Brad) Wurtz has joined the company as senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing.

Wurtz is best known for his ten years of leadership at Cisco Systems, which culminated in establishing and running Cisco’s carrier packet voice business unit as vice president and general manager in 2000. He had previously served as vice president and general manager of Cisco's multiservice switching business (formerly Stratacom), and led Cisco’s acquisitions of Sentient and Transmedia. As director of engineering of Cisco’s optical internetworking business unit, Wurtz led the development and launch of Cisco's GSR 12000-series service provider router family, which remains Cisco’s flagship IP router today.

Immediately prior to joining Caspian, Wurtz was co-founder and general partner of Ironweed Capital, a seed investment partnership based in Palo Alto. He has a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and an M.B.A from Stanford University. Wurtz serves on the board of MaXXan, and was a director of Conxion Corporation, recently purchased by NaviSite.

“I’ve spent most of my career focused on the core of the Internet, and wouldn’t be here if I didn’t believe Caspian could become a major player,” said Wurtz. “Caspian has a large addressable market, good traction with customers and partners, and a next-generation product that can genuinely change the way carriers design and run their networks. This is the most exciting play in the core infrastructure today.”

“Caspian is fortunate to be able to attract a person of Brad's caliber,” said Caspian CEO & Chairman Bill Krause. “It’s a testimony to the uniqueness of the company’s product that we’ve been able to enlist top talent like Brad in building out our sales and marketing organizations. Now that Caspian’s product is available, we’re very focused on scaling our sales functions worldwide.”
