GAITHERSBURG, Md. -- BroadSoft, Inc., the leading provider of VoIP application software, today announced that it has acquired Carbon Twelve, a software and multimedia applications developer based in Sydney, Australia. With the acquisition, BroadSoft builds on its continuing growth by extending its product offerings and reconfirming its commitment to the Asia Pacific region.

“This acquisition is a key component of BroadSoft’s initiative to expand our portfolio of VoIP desktop client applications,” said Michael Tessler, president and CEO of BroadSoft. “By enhancing our server-based applications with new client offerings, BroadSoft is empowering service providers with a wide range of revenue-producing applications for end-users.”

BroadSoft will integrate Carbon Twelve’s client software applications into the company’s BroadWorks® VoIP application product line. The software includes an integrated toolbar that enables users to make and accept telephone calls and manage settings and preferences within Microsoft® Outlook® and Microsoft Internet Explorer®, as well as a carrier-class VoIP attendant console to manage receptionist capabilities.

"BroadSoft has made a strategic move in acquiring Carbon Twelve and adding VoIP desktop applications to their product line," said Dave D'Aprano, Australian solutions and services director, Dimension Data. "We have worked very successfully with both BroadSoft and Carbon Twelve in Australia, deploying their software into the carrier market to provide extended calling features for VoIP and IP telephony services."

“We are proud to join forces with the BroadSoft team,” said George Lawson, CEO of Carbon Twelve. “This acquisition validates our business strategy and realizes our vision, which has been to invest heavily in developing world-class applications for the BroadWorks platform that have been deployed by service providers around the world. This acquisition is a credit to the entire Carbon Twelve team.”

“Expanding its portfolio of client applications is a timely initiative for BroadSoft,” said Kevin Mitchell, directing analyst for Infonetics Research. “Today, enterprises are looking to VoIP to drive business value and not just for lower cost telephone service. Service providers need applications to break out of the VoIP price wars and deploy differentiated, revenue-producing services. New VoIP applications that streamline the end-user experience and drive productivity will help both markets reach this end-game.”
