Alcatel, OTE Team Up for Olympics

PARIS -- Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced it is a majorsupplier of advanced communications equipment for OTE’s, the incumbent Greek operator, networkinfrastructure that will provide crucial support for the 2004 Athens Olympics. This is in line withOTE’s recent network expansion to ensure its full readiness for the upcoming games.

OTE’s mandate is to meet the challenge of guaranteeing high quality advanced voice, data andmultimedia services to local and international users. Beginning August 13th, with the opening of theOlympics, Athens will be the epicenter for one of the most important events worldwide, and for twoweeks the communications traffic to and from Athens as well as the surrounding areas willsignificantly increase.

Journalists and broadcasters from all over the world gathering in Athens will require state-of-the-arttechnologies enabling fast and efficient data and multimedia transmission over different networksand devices.With the solutions supplied by Alcatel, OTE is well positioned to successfully fulfill this task.

Alcatel has deployed a full range of advanced solutions, including terrestrial and submarine opticaltransport systems, multi-service data networking platforms, broadband access with DSL solutions,microwave radios, and IP-PBX systems. Alcatel also provided professional and consultancy servicesrequired for such a complex project.
