Ray LeMaistre talks to Ben Verwaayen, CEO of Alcatel-Lucent, and Gee Rittenhouse, head of research at Bell Labs, about GreenTouch, a revolutionary new project aimed at reducing power consumption in the telecom space by a factor of thousands
Wake me up when they have a video called "GreenCollect", a revolutionary new project aimed at collecting more profit (not just revenue) in the telecom space by a factor of millions.
If these folk actually pull off what they're talking about, then I'm sure you'd be genuinely interested, no? I understand your skepticism though - I feel you may be in the majority.
But as my granny used to say, if you don't try it, you'll never know if you're good at it.... and she was a wise old bird...

Exactly which ALU products will have reduced wall power consumption to 1/1000th in a few years? Or were they just acknowledging that ALU is on the same path as NT, thus reducing the overall power consumption of their boxes by 100.0%?
Just some competitive positioning. Tier 1s -- especially BT -- are on power savings/greenhouse gasses initiatives, driven mostly by their governments and OpEx considerations. Plus the EU directives. If I were ALU, I'd be looking to get out ahead of all that too.
