PARIS -- Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced Alan Mottram is appointed Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Alcatel replacing Ron Spithill.

The CMO function is responsible for Alcatel's global market positioning, marketing communications, industry analyst relations, channel marketing and partnership management.

Ron Spithill will retire in October 2005, having served Alcatel for 43 years. Previously, he was President of Alcatel Asia Pacific and Managing Director of Alcatel Australia.

Alan Mottram has been President of Alcatel's Fixed Solutions activities since the beginning of 2003, building the Alcatel position in IPTV and Next Generation Networks. Previously, he held senior positions within Alcatel's access, enterprise, software and services activities. He has been with the company since 1991, spending his early years in the Group growing Alcatel's service provider business in the UK market. Alan Mottram began his carrier with the UK's General Electric Company working in communications and defense businesses for ten years.
