TOKYO, MAHWAH, N.J., MARTINSRIED, Germany, and MUNICH -- ADVA Optical Networking today announced the successful deployment of a 10Gbit/s Ethernet network for ZTV Japan, using its carrier-class Fiber Service Platform (FSP) 3000 and FSP 2000 Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) systems. ZTV is one of Japan's largest local cable operators, providing cable TV, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and data transmission services to more than 370,000 customers in 40 cities across the central west region of Japan.

In partnership with ADVA, Net One Systems, one of the largest systems integrators in Japan, implemented for ZTV a 10Gbit/s Ethernet network that spans 500 km from Tokyo to Nagoya using ADVA's FSP 3000 DWDM platform. In a second section of network, Net One and ADVA partnered to deploy a 10Gbit/s Ethernet point-to-point network that reaches more than 600km into additional ZTV service areas. This deployment featured the FSP 2000 DWDM platform.

"As a competitive service provider in Japan, it is important to have a scalable high speed Ethernet network from which we can deliver next-generation services for customers," said Mr. Takayasu Nakayama, Director of Communication Operation Division at ZTV. "We investigated other solutions, but it was ADVA's FSP family of products that allowed us to most cost-effectively build a 10Gbit/s high speed, fiber-based transmission backbone network that could scale for future needs and offers reduced power consumption levels with a smaller footprint."

ZTV is a rapidly growing service provider in Japan and is aggressively positioning to offer "triple play" services in the near future. In a bid that included competition from major global vendors, the FSP 3000 and FSP 2000 product platforms from ADVA were selected and applied to different pieces of the ZTV network. As a result, ZTV's total network investment was reduced and positions the carrier to offer services to customers at lower prices. Selecting a solution from a single vendor also allows ZTV to streamline network operation, administration and management (OAM).

"We are excited to partner with ZTV and Net One on deployment of this advanced network" stated Brian P. McCann, ADVA's chief marketing and strategy officer. "With an emphasis on future growth and flexibility at an attractive value, our teams have delivered a carrier-class network solution that helps ZTV respond to increasing customer needs for high-bandwidth applications, such as digital video and triple play services."
