Cox & Adelphia OK VCom Edge Decoder

VCom Inc. made a nice news splash on an otherwise quiet Presidents' Day, announcing that Cox Communications and Adelphia Communications have approved its CableVista digital simulcast edge decoder for cable system use. The product approvals come after the two leading MSOs conducted successful field trials of the CableVista edge decoder, which performs MPEG decoding, analog modulation and upconversion for up to 24 NTSC/PAL channels in a 1 RU chassis. VCom, a canadian tech vendor based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, said it expects product approvals from other U.S. and international MSOs too. But the company, which also boasts that several mid-size cable operators have already deployed its gear, declined to name the future prospects.
