RESTON, Va. -- Transaction Network Services (TNS), one of the world’s leading providers of fast, cost-effective data communications services for transaction-oriented applications, today announced that Covista Communications has selected TNS’ Telecom Services Division to provide Signaling System 7 (SS7) network services.

After a competitive review process, Covista has signed an agreement with TNS to consolidate their SS7 signaling and intelligent network services and provide a single point of access to SS7 services across the TNS network. In addition to meeting Covista’s standard signaling requirements TNS will also support the delivery of advanced TCAP (Transaction Capabilities Application Part) services.

TCAP provides application-level functions for special SS7 services, including database services such as Local Number Portability (LNP), 800, and Caller Name (CNAM).

“After evaluating a number of comparable solutions, we found that TNS could meet our SS7 signaling requirements at a lower cost while providing total network management support,” said Kevin Alward, Chief Operating Officer of Covista Communications. “Leveraging their technical expertise and customized approach to service delivery, TNS is providing the additional TCAP services we need to help us build a competitive advantage in the market while increasing our network’s potential for profit.”

TNS’ SS7 network provides the technology, diversity and capacity necessary to manage the traffic requirements of growing carriers. TNS manages and supports a full range of SS7 services for its carrier customers, providing nationwide LATA coverage and access to a wide array of Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN) services such as wired and wireless Local Number Portability (LNP), Caller Name (CNAM), 800, and Custom Local Area Signaling Services (CLASS).

“Our agreement with Covista highlights TNS’ strength in the signaling services sector and further differentiates TNS in the competitive telecommunications market,” said Barry Toser, Senior Vice President and General Manager, TNS Telecom Services Division. “TNS is all about delivering faster, better, cheaper SS7 solutions that meet the industry demand for innovative and reliable services. We have developed a customized offering, combining connectivity to our SS7 network and support for enhanced TCAP services, that allows Covista to consolidate their SS7 signaling and intelligent network services to realize greater network control and complete management support.”
