Wintegra Unveils WinPath2

Wintegra introduces technical details of its new WinPath2 Access Processor family

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Wintegra(TM) Inc. has established itself as the market leader in Access Packet Processing. Its current products, the WinPath1 family and the wide selection of Networking Software, are the preferred solution of numerous networking and communication system providers, including most of the Tier 1 telecommunication manufacturers. Wintegra's WinPath(TM) devices leverage the innovative architecture that combines Network Processors' programmability with production quality pre-packaged software, facilitating rapid time to market.

Building on this solid foundation, Wintegra will introduce this week at the Network Systems Design Conference in San Jose, the technical details of its new WinPath2 Access Processor family. WinPath2 extends the performance and integration of the WinPath1 family by more than doubling the processing capability for both Data Path and Control Path, plus significantly increases the on-chip integration. WinPath2 not only provides optimized solutions for the markets addressed by WinPath1, like DSLAMs, Access Routers, BPON systems, Integrated Voice and Data systems, and Wireless Transport, but also addresses new market segments like 3G Wireless Channel Cards, GPON, WiMAX, Multi-Service Provisioning Platforms, Multi-Service Access Routers, and sophisticated Triple Play Systems.

WinPath2 extends the revolutionary architecture started with the original WinPath family by now utilizing six data processing elements (WinGines) instead of four. These WinGines are capable of running at 300 MHz and their input clocks are decoupled from the Control Path processor to better fine tune overall system performance and power. They are RAM based, ensuring "future proofing" of current designs by enabling a software download to upgrade to evolving protocol standards, such as WT-101 in DSL and new 3GPP standards in Wireless. Wintegra greatly enhanced the WinPath2 Control Plane processing by embedding a high performance MIPS 24K processor running up to 450 MHz. Wireless and other security intensive applications are well supported with the addition of on-board processing blocks for a wide range of confidentiality and authentication processing.

All the latest broadband protocols such as ADSL2+ and VDSL2+ markets are well addressed by the addition of enhanced shaping processing and additional system performance. Up to 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports or 24 10/100 ports are now supported to facilitate sophisticated IP-based applications and high port count Ethernet designs. A wide range of PCI-based peripherals can be accessed with an on-board PCI 2.2 compliant interface. Like the original WinPath family, high density channelized application support for Any Service over Any Port is available through a companion Universal Front End (UFE) device by Wintegra, now enabling a full OC-12 (up to 8064 DS0 channels) worth of PPP (Point to Point Protocol), ML/MC-PPP (Multi-Link/Multi Class PPP), FR (Frame Relay), MFR (Multi link FR), IMA (Inverse Muxing for ATM), CES (Circuit Emulation Service) and PWE3 (Pseudo Wire End to End Emulation) -- CESoPSN and SAToP processing. A key WinPath differentiator and a strong reason for its success on line cards and chassis blades, is the ability to have all of this performance and flexibility, yet consume low power. This functionality and integration enables 4 STM-1 channelized interfaces to reside on an AMC module for A-TCA chassis designs, critical for new Wireless Media Gateways and Radio Network Controllers. WinPath2, like WinPath1, should consume less than 5 Watts.
