MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:NETL), the leader in the design and development of knowledge-based processors and high-speed integrated circuits, today announced the availability and successful customer design win momentum of the NLS205 family of NETL7™ knowledge-based processors, the industry’s first single-chip content processing solution that is capable of scaling from 250 Megabits per second (Mbps) to 2.5 Gigabits per second (Gbps) line-rate performance without requiring external memory. The NLS205 family of processors is targeted at high-volume applications such as security and networking systems for small and medium-sized businesses and datacenter servers. The revolutionary architecture, best-in-class feature set, small footprint, cost effectiveness, and low power of the NLS205 family of processors have enabled NetLogic Microsystems to already achieve multiple successful design wins.

The new family of NETL7 knowledge-based processors features a revolutionary Intelligent Finite Automata (IFA) architecture that provides built-in intelligence to perform deep-packet inspection (DPI) for advanced security and application-aware systems. Using a highly multi-threaded hybrid of multiple advanced finite automata algorithms, the IFA architecture enables lower power consumption and memory requirements while enhancing performance, database flexibility and compilation speed for the largest and most complex intrusion prevention, anti-virus and application detection databases.

In addition, the NETL7 knowledge-based processors integrate massively parallel compute engines with high-bandwidth on-chip database memory. The NLS205 family of processors provide over 100 Terabits per second (Tbps) of ultra-low latency access bandwidth to effectively accelerate complex and iterative content inspection while eliminating the need for high-latency and costly off-chip memory. The combination of these massively parallel engines with the innovative IFA architecture enables customers to realize unparalleled efficiency and scalability in their system designs. Competing solutions require external memory or even share host CPU system memory to achieve such performance, resulting in slow performance and latency as well as higher cost and design complexities.

The new NLS205 family of processors is fully compatible with NetLogic Microsystems’ high-end 10Gbps NLS1005 family of processors. By offering a common hardware and software compatibility platform across a broad performance range of 250Mbps to 10Gbps, customers can seamlessly scale their developments from entry-level 250Mbps systems for the SMB/SOHO market to high-performance 10Gbps solutions for the enterprise and service provider markets.

“We’re proud to be the first company that has achieved Tier 1 design wins for products across the entire performance spectrum, from 250Mbps to 2.5Gbps and 10Gbps,” said Chris O’Reilly, vice president of marketing at NetLogic Microsystems. “Our continued innovation in both hardware and algorithms for complex DPI and regular expression acceleration sets us apart from the competition in all key customer metrics: performance, power, scalability and cost.”
