Chip Father, 81, Dead

2:00 PM -- Jack Kilby, the Nobel Prize-winner who invented the integrated circuit, died yesterday after a battle with cancer, according to a press release from Texas Instruments Inc. (NYSE: TXN) and several wire services. He was 81.

Now, folks here and there are always being accused of being the "father of" something or other, but Kilby appears to have been the real deal -- he fathered the modern computer chip. Question: Where's the next "father of" coming from? And what will he -- or she -- parent?
