TOKYO -- Caspian Networks has signed a distribution agreement with NEC System Integration & Construction, Ltd. (NESIC), the leading systems integration company in Japan. NESIC is now reselling Caspian flow-state routers to Japanese service providers seeking to offer next generation IP services.

NESIC supplements Caspian Networks' Japanese operations with extensive local market knowledge and trusted systems integration services. The company has significant expertise installing ATM and Frame Relay equipment for major carriers, as well as for government and enterprise customers. Using Caspian's flow-state technology, NESIC plans to allow service providers to offer premium services-such as voice over IP or IP videoconferencing-more economically, as well as control peer-to-peer traffic or consolidate multi-service networks on a single IP infrastructure. With conventional IP routers, these services are either cumbersome or technically impossible.

"Caspian allows NESIC to enter the IP QoS market-a market that we're expecting will grow as more and more service providers recognize the limitations of IP/MPLS best-efforts networking," said Itsuo Tadokoro, Business Development, NESIC SI & Service Division. "Our strength is in providing full IP-based solutions; we're in a position to offer comprehensive facility service, operations and maintenance functions for service providers interested in moving to this new technology that we believe could form the basis for IP routing for the next twenty years."

"As a technology leader, Japan is one of the most important markets in the world to Caspian," said Brad Wurtz, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Caspian Networks. "In combination with NESIC's brand, technical experience and operation and maintenance support, Caspian and its products become even more compelling to carriers in Japan seeking to deploy new IP services that require true IP quality of service."

Caspian's Apeiro is the first IP router to offer per-flow traffic policing, shaping and burst tolerance guarantees on links up to 10 Gigabits per second. These features allow service providers to enforce rigorous ATM-like quality of service and provision their networks far more economically than with conventional routers.
