LONDON -- Cable & Wireless, the international telecommunications group, today announced an agreement with ManagedStorage International (MSI) to provide an improved portfolio of data protection services to its customers in the United Kingdom. Under the agreement, MSI will enable Cable & Wireless to provide backup and restore services from its UK data centres at Swindon and Park Royal. MSI will install and manage a data protection infrastructure in each centre, enabling Cable & Wireless to provide an enhanced service to existing and new hosting customers.

Cable & Wireless will market and sell the enhanced backup and restore service through its existing UK sales channels as part of its managed hosting portfolio. Cable & Wireless customers can choose a fully managed and guaranteed service for a monthly service fee allowing them to protect and recover lost files at a price-point that is typically less expensive than do-it-yourself options.

As part of the enhancements, Cable & Wireless can offer customers a greater selection and flexibility in backup and restore options, allowing them to define their own policies to suit their data protection needs. In addition, end-customers can monitor services by using an intuitive web-based portal for managing storage environments. The application provides Cable & Wireless customers with a single view for job status and detailed reporting to assist them in maximising the use of storage resources.

“By working with MSI, we are able to provide our hosting customers with a premium backup offering managed by the industry’s leading storage management company,” said Denis Mulhall, director, customer service operations, UK, Cable & Wireless. “The customers in our UK data centres can be assured that their data is backed-up and protected on a daily basis.”

“Our agreement with Cable & Wireless is proof that companies around the world are continuing to realise the need to properly protect their company’s assets against a potential loss,” said Tom Sweeney, president, CEO and chairman of MSI. “It was also apparent to Cable & Wireless that through working with MSI it can offer its customers an improved portfolio of data protection services.”
