Casa's D3.1 CCAP Delivers 400 Mbits/s Upstream

ANDOVER, Mass. – Casa Systems, a worldwide leader in next-generation cable edge technology, today announced that its Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP) is powering a DOCSIS 3.1 demonstration with upstream speeds of more than 400 Mbps at CableLabs Winter Conference 2016, taking place February 9-12 in Orlando, Fla. The live network simulation is running on Casa’s C40G high-density US 16x8 module. Casa Systems is now one of the first CCAP providers to show DOCSIS 3.1 multi-Mbps upstream traffic.

As bandwidth consumption continues to grow exponentially, DOCSIS 3.1 will enable service providers to meet subscriber demands with throughputs of up to 10 Gbps downstream and 1 Gbps upstream. Casa has proven the ability of its C100G and C40G CCAP solutions to reach the dramatically higher throughput levels made possible by DOCSIS 3.1. Prior to this week’s upstream demonstration at CableLabs Winter Conference, Casa showcased DOCSIS 3.1 downstream speeds in excess of 4.5 Gbps on its C100G at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in October 2015.

“The transition to DOCSIS 3.1 is imminent as service providers race to meet customers’ gigabit era demands, and our recent demonstrations show the readiness of our C100G and C40G to stand up to the rigors of live DOCSIS 3.1 networks,” said Jerry Guo, CEO of Casa Systems. “Our CCAP solutions were built with DOCSIS 3.1 in mind and are based on a software-defined architecture, so service providers can take advantage of the standard’s full potential today with no field upgrades, while also meeting future ultra-broadband requirements more easily and cost-effectively.”

Casa Systems’ C40G is a smaller form factor CCAP that includes the same DOCSIS 3.1-enabled upstream, downstream and switching modules as the C100G. Both the C100G and C40G enable service providers to deliver voice, video and high-speed data over one platform. With full DOCSIS 3.1 support, service providers can deploy gigabit services now while being well-positioned to scale and provide additional services down the road – without the need to rip and replace switch cards, line cards or PHY modules. Service providers of all sizes, including Time Warner Cable, Mediacom, Liberty Global and Wave Broadband, are deploying Casa’s CCAP solutions to deliver an optimal customer experience and differentiated service tiers, and to reduce OPEX.
