MRV Intros FSO System

CHATSWORTH, Calif. -- MRV COMMUNICATIONS, INC. (Nasdaq: MRVC), a leading provider of Ethernet access solutions, today announced the first of its Photonic Air Link (PAL) series of all optical FSO systems - the Terescope 1. The TereScope 1 optical wireless system is the industry's first commercially available all optical free space optics system to deliver fiber-speed service without the need for electric power on the rooftop or opto-electronic (O-E-O) conversion through windows. TereScope 1 significantly reduces the cost of network deployment and speeds the seamless integration of next generation services for broadband access. The systems are passive, electronics and power independent units. Connected directly via fiber optic to an MRV switch module, the TereScope 1 system offers data rates of 1 to 100 Mbps, at distances of up to 300 meters. Protocol independent (SONET, Ethernet/IP, TDM, ATM and Cellular transmission), the TereScope 1 provides easy integration with any existing infrastructure, including twisted pair (DSL), CAT-5, fiber and wireless.
