Cablevision Lands Ex-Yahooer as CTO
Fifth-largest US MSO hires former Yahoo exec David Dibble for its freshly created CTO position.
Seeking to rebuild its technical team following an exodus of senior executives, Cablevision Systems has snared a former Yahoo executive for its new CTO post.
Cablevision Systems Corp. (NYSE: CVC), which will report its second-quarter earnings later Tuesday morning, announced the selection of David Dibble on Monday.
Dibble, who was most recently an adviser to Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO) CEO Marissa Mayer and previously served as the company's executive vice president of central technology, will assume the MSO's top tech post next month. He will report to Cablevision CEO James Dolan.
Cablevision said that Dibble, in this newly created role, "will be accountable for enhancing the company's technology infrastructure and implementing an enterprise-wide approach to data architecture." Dibble will manage the company's Corporate Engineering, Information Technology, Network Operations and Software teams, as well as oversee a wide range of systems, including customer service information systems, corporate financial systems and business intelligence.
In addition, Cablevision said Dibble will work with other company executives to "fully exploit Cablevision's WiFi network and support the design and development of current and future products and services." CEO Dolan has indicated that the MSO, which topped the 1 million hotspot point in the greater New York metro area last week, has big plans to leverage its rapidly growing WiFi network to offer a new crop of revenue-generating services. Dibble is one of several recently appointed senior executives at Cablevision, which has lost a few senior executives to Charter Communications Inc. and other tech companies over the past year. In one of the most recent key departures, Yvette Kanouff, Cablevision's former executive vice president of corporate engineering and technology, left for a senior position at Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO).
Cablevision said Dibble will work closely with Dolan, President Brian Sweeney, and COO Kristin Dolan, bringing together technology, operations, and strategy to drive innovation and growth. Long-time Cablevision technology executive Wilt Hildenbrand will continue to serve as senior adviser for the company.
