Broadened IP network provides business-class DSL access for managed VPNs
November 28, 2003
HERNDON, Va. –– SAVVIS Communications (NASDAQ: SVVS), a global managed services provider, today announced that it has broadened the reach of its global Intelligent IP NetworkSM to provide cost-effective, business-class DSL access for managed VPNs to more than 1,000 small, medium and large markets across America.
Previously, companies with locations in smaller US markets, as well as companies with small offices in larger cities, could not afford or did not have access to the type of global IP infrastructure SAVVIS offers. Typically, they would implement relatively expensive T1-connections to support their business needs. The SAVVIS business-class DSL for managed VPNs provides a less expensive option to connect to its high performance global network and implement many of the managed services than SAVVIS customers in major markets currently employ.
Commenting on SAVVIS newly expanded footprint, Steven Harris, research manager at IDC, said, "With this announcement, SAVVIS is leveraging its heritage in the financial services sector to expand their reach to branch locations and SMEs that are well served by DSL, utilizing its speed at a cost substantially below that for a T1. The access agnostic strategy also develops an underserved market, since most large U.S. carriers focus on only the largest corporations. SMEs and smaller branch locations are just as likely to have an interest in, and need for, IP VPN services, but are unlikely to be served by an established business-class carrier at present." SAVVIS Intelligent IP NetworkingSM combines the ubiquity and cost-effectiveness of an IP VPN with the reliability and security of private, leased line networks.
SAVVIS’ Intelligent HostingSM is a fully managed service with no hardware investment required. Additional services are also available, such as firewalling, load balancing, SSL acceleration, and rate shaping, all without customers having to purchase equipment. Because of its virtualized approach, SAVVIS can effectively manage the end to end solution and offer industry leading VPN capabilities very cost effectively.
