Moto Marks Modem Milestone
With one groovy-lookin' 'celebratory icon'
Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT), one of only a handful of vendors to survive a big shakeout in the Docsis modem market when margins turned wafer thin in the earlier part of the decade, announced the passing of a new milestone: shipment of its 50-millionth SURFboard modem. (See Moto Makes Modem Milestone.)
The company says it will mark the achievement in the coming months by affixing "celebratory" icons on two models -- the SB5101 and SBG900 (a wireless modem gateway) -- that are sold in some big retail outlets in North America.
It's groovy… in an Austin Powers sort of way.
No word yet if the logo will also find its way onto the SB6120, the modem Motorola sent to CableLabs for the first official cert wave to test against the new Docsis 3.0 specs. (See Vendors Ride First Docsis 3.0 Wave .)
