TeliaSonera has selected Lucent to prepare one of Europe's largest major Internet Protocol networks for large-scale migration to next-gen IPv6
October 11, 2005
MURRAY HILL, N.J. -- Lucent Technologies has been selected by TeliaSonera, a leading pan-European mobile and fixed line service provider based in Sweden, to prepare one of Europe's largest major Internet Protocol networks for large-scale migration to next-generation IP version 6 (IPv6) in 2006, the companies said today. The initial deployments for TeliaSonera will be in Sweden and for TeliaSonera International Carrier, but the contract with Lucent Technologies covers all TeliaSonera subsidiaries.
Lucent will provide TeliaSonera with its next-generation, award-winning VitalQIP® IP Address Management software, including new workflow management technology, to automate and control the management of its existing IP version 4 (IPv4) network and integrate support for its next generation Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) network.
Lucent Worldwide Services will provide strategic software consulting and deployment services throughout the multi-year contract, including IP acquisition and allocation guidance, IP configuration automation process design, security planning, and DNS and IPv6 knowledge transfer.
"This will be one of the first major IPv6 network deployments in Europe, consistent with our leadership role in IPv6," said Claes Nycander, Senior Vice President and Chief Network Officer, TeliaSonera. "We are convinced that Lucent's VitalQIP® product is the best solution for managing IP and DNS services and for automating our business processes today and in an IPv6 network."
IPv6 is the next generation of Internet Protocol. It provides a virtually unlimited number of IP addresses, improved performance and security, and enhanced support for mobile and advanced IP services. The expanded capacity enables business and consumers to enjoy enhanced multi-media lifestyle services across IP networks using dramatically increasing numbers of phones, computers, cameras, personal digital assistants, portable music and video players, remote sensors and other emerging technologies.
Leveraging its expertise in IP address management, DNS design and security planning, Lucent Worldwide Services will act as project consultants during the migration of TeliaSonera's IPv4 and IPv6 network. Lucent Technologies is also helping TeliaSonera integrate IP and DNS management with its existing business process, giving them a cost-effective and scalable way to enhance their customer service as their network grows.
TeliaSonera currently has more than 8 million fixed lines, about 15 million mobile phone subscribers and more than 2 million Internet customers.
"We are pleased to be able to deliver a solution combining best of breed functional capabilities in integrated DNS and IP management with industry-leading workflow management capabilities," said Baudouin Boreux, vice president, sales, Network Operations Software at Lucent Technologies. "We consider TeliaSonera one of the front-runners in delivering Next-Gen IP services, including IPv6, and we are delighted to be partnering with them in this project."
