Internet Photonics licenses AT&T Labs’ research to speed development of provisioning and restoration for Gigabit Ethernet
March 13, 2002
SHREWSBURY, N.J. and MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- Internet Photonics Inc. today announced an agreement with the research arm of AT&T Labs to license its software that includes restoration capability designed for intelligent carrier- grade Gigabit Ethernet transport solutions. The agreement recognizes a shared desire for bringing the best of the packet and optical networking worlds together via a standardized control plane, enabling higher speed, lower cost and reliable multi-vendor operations.“Licensing our intellectual property to innovative companies like Internet Photonics helps accelerate the incubation period from research to prototype products,” said Jack Klingert, vice president, AT&T Labs. Intellectual Property Internet Photonics’ solutions for service providers will allow end-to-end provisioning of Gigabit Ethernet services using the Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) standard. GMPLS is an evolving industry standard being developed through the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) that will make it easier to provision wavelengths and Gigabit Ethernet services.
