March 28, 2002
LOUISVILLE, Colo. -- The cable industry has certified twelve more DOCSIS(TM) 1.1 high-speed cable modems at the conclusion of the third certification wave for DOCSIS 1.1 testing, adding to a growing supply of second-generation interoperable high-speed devices. The companies receiving DOCSIS 1.1 certification status in the latest wave of testing are Accton, Arris, Askey, Conexant, Quanta, Samsung, Scientific-Atlanta, Tellabs, Terayon, Thomson, and Xrostech. In addition to this record number of certified DOCSIS 1.1 CMs, CableLabs(R) today qualified two Cable Modem Termination Systems (CMTSs) from Arris and Riverstone. The 1.1 modems are compatible with existing DOCSIS 1.0 equipment and will work on cable systems alongside modems that will be certified under future versions of DOCSIS. There are now a total of 21 DOCSIS 1.1 modems certified, and four CMTSs that are qualified. Rouzbeh Yassini, executive consultant to CableLabs and leader of the cable modem initiative at CableLabs, said that the DOCSIS 1.1 results of certification wave 21 indicate that the cable modem certification strategy continues to help the broadband industry's advance as DOCSIS 1.1 is the basis for new IP services rollouts. "This certification program continues as a vehicle for helping get product to market in a remarkable timeframe and in good working order," said Yassini, who also is CEO of YAS Broadband Ventures.
