PHILADELPHIA -- AT&T today announced that J. Michael Schweder will become AT&T President-Pennsylvania beginning Oct. 1, 2002, taking over for Jim Ginty, who is retiring Sept. 30 after 25 years with the company. Mr. Ginty has been president of AT&T-Pennsylvania since 1997. Schweder, a resident of Bethlehem, Pa., has worked at AT&T for 19 years in a variety of positions and will continue as AT&T-New Jersey President, a position to which he was named in November 2000. In Pennsylvania, Mr. Schweder will lead AT&T's entry into the state's residential local phone service market. AT&T recently announced that it has begun a market trial of residential local phone service in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, and hopes to launch its competitively priced local calling plans in both cities later this year.
