RICHARDSON, Texas -- Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. (FNC), headquartered in Richardson, Texas, is a major division of Fujitsu Ltd., a 180,000 employee, $45 billion company. FNC is regarded as one of Fujitsu's most strategic assets. FNC is positioned in the optical telecom market and employs more than 3,500 employees and reported revenues in fiscal year 2000 of more than $2.6 billion. FNC workforce reductions across North America will amount to about 500 employees, equivalent to about 15 percent. Approximately 200 people in the Dallas area will be affected, where more than 2,400 people are employed. One major focus is on streamlining FNC's customer service groups, which will allow FNC to focus more closely on customer needs, while reducing costs.
