LAS VEGAS -- Wave7 Optics Inc., a leading supplier of fiber-to-the-home and -premises (FTTH/FTTP) broadband network equipment for residential and business services, today announced here at the TelecomNEXT conference and exhibition a new 7000-home FTTP network with CableOne in Rio Rancho (Albuquerque), New Mexico. CableOne, one of the top ten MSOs in the U.S. and a unit of The Washington Post Company, will deploy Wave7’s Last Mile Link System in the new “Mariposa” residential development. The companies are in the process of connecting the first 1000 homes and will connect the remainder depending on the pace of construction and other factors.

“We have toured Wave7 installations in other parts of the country and came away impressed with what their current customers have to say – especially in the area of video services, which are the key to triple play service packages -- and the high-quality network design, deployment and integration with other network elements,” said Jim Hannan, VP of Engineering for CableOne. “We have successfully integrated the Wave7 equipment into our existing architecture, which includes softswitch, router, layer 3 switch and other equipment, and we foresee no problems as we expand to the homes and businesses of Mariposa.”

“Being selected by one of the country’s leading MSOs is a big moment for Wave7 and we look forward to completing this project for CableOne and perhaps engaging with them for other projects elsewhere in their service area,” said Emmanuel Vella, CMO of Wave7 Optics. “More and more MSOs are looking at FTTP for green field deployments as the economics compare favorably with the cost of advanced HFC while reducing operational costs. Additionally, FTTP infrastructure offers much more room to grow in terms of bandwidth and services such as HDTV.”

SVENDBORG, Denmark and ATLANTA -- Wave7 Optics Inc., a leading supplier of fiber-to-the-home or -premises (FTTH/FTTP) equipment for residential and business services, and Sydfyns Elforsyning (SEF), a major utility company based in Svendborg, Denmark, today announced a major FTTP PON network that is currently the largest such system installed in northern Europe. The two companies announced further that 1200 residential customers have been connected to the network and are now enjoying a full suite of “triple play” voice, RF video and data services. SEF expects to have more than 5000 customers “on net” by the end of this year. Eltel Networks is managing the project as the equipment installer and integrator.

Sydfyns Elforsyning is in the process of connecting all of their 30,000 electrical customers in the Svendborg area to this new “single fiber” optical broadband network. Single-fiber Ethernet based PON (passive optical networks) such as Wave7’s “Last Mile Link” equipment are less expensive to deploy, maintain and operate than dual-fiber systems, which transmit RF video traffic on a discrete fiber segregated from the data and voice traffic. Furthermore, the Wave7 PON network will make it more efficient for SEF to operate this network as an open access system that will accommodate multiple third-party Internet, telephone and video (RF or IPTV) service providers.

“Sydfyns Elforsyning joins a growing number of progressive utility companies who are both meeting customer demand and diversifying their business operations and revenue sources with economical and feature-rich PON based FTTP networks,” said Tom Tighe, CEO of Wave7 Optics. “Having deployed networks serving hundreds of thousands of people around the world, we have the experience to see this project through and to support Sydfyns with their network expansion. It is good to see that Northern Europe is starting to experience the same economies from the use of a scalable PON network just like the millions of customers that are deployed on PON networks in Asia and the USA.”

In an additional release:

ATLANTA and LAS VEGAS -- Wave7 Optics Inc., a leading supplier of fiber-to-the-home and -premises (FTTH/FTTP) broadband network equipment for residential and business services, today introduced new “EFM” customer premises equipment at the TelecomNEXT conference and exhibition in Las Vegas, where the company is exhibiting the industry’s most diverse FTTP product line in booth 1063 of the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. “EFM” refers to IEEE 802.3ah “Ethernet in the First Mile” next-generation FTTP networks now being deployed in high volume around the world.

The new ONT equipment consists of the following:

  • Model ONT-E100i – a “data only” device featuring one 10/100 Ethernet port for the delivery of high-speed data up to 100Mbits, IPTV and VoIP services. General availability – now.

  • Model ONT-E1000i – a data only device featuring one 10/100/1000 Ethernet port for the delivery of data up to 1 Gbits, IPTV and VoIP services. General availability – 2Q 2006.

  • Model ONT-E221 – a “triple-play” device featuring two 10/100 ports, two POTS telephone lines and one RF Video port for the delivery of data with up to 200Mbits of throughput, standard telephony service (POTS), IP Telephony (VoIP), IPTV and RF Video overlay. General availability – 2Q 2006.

“This new equipment represents a valuable extension to Wave7’s ONT product line, which is the broadest in the FTTP market,” said Emmanuel Vella, CMO of Wave7 Optics. “Furthermore, these new ONTs are supported by our existing network management system and offer all the ‘point and click’ provisioning, billing and other innovative benefits found in our existing customer premises equipment.”
