Keymile Adds Ethernet Card

HANOVER, Germany -- As of immediate effect, KEYMILE will supply an Ethernet card for its multi-service access system MileGate. Per rack, the card will allow connection of up to 1,920 households by optical fibre. An important benefit of the new card is that an additional cable TV signal can be transmitted on each port at the same time as IP data traffic.

The optical Ethernet card is designed for FTTH applications. Integrated into the multi-service access platform MileGate, network operators can now offer the typical triple-play services, such as broadband Internet, television over IP (IPTV) and Voice-over-IP at up to 1 Gbps. One of the card¹s outstanding features is that a cable TV signal can be transmitted simultaneously with broadband Internet access. As a result, network operators can easily and cost effectively offer customers an extensive range of TV programmes via optical fibre, without having to set up and operate a complex IPTV infrastructure. Services such as Video-on-Demand are also supported. Another target group are operators of cable networks who can also then offer high-quality triple-play services, as well as traditional cable TV, via one single optical fibre. The card supports the established standards for cable TV and Ethernet/IP.

Every card has over 24 optical Ethernet ports, so that 1,920 end customers can be connected from one 19" rack. Due to its low energy consumption, the optical card in the MileGate system is ideal for indoor and outdoor usage.
