CHICAGO -- Stratos Optical Technologies, a leader in fiberoptic system solutions, announced the expansion of their FTTx product line to include a new series of HFOC (Hardened Fiber Optic Connectors) and new handheld optical test instruments. Stratos entered the FTTx market early with an established OEM presence in the central office, enterprise and access markets. Stratos entered the OSP segment in 2005 with the introduction of a complete end-to-end passive optical network (PON) connectivity system specifically designed to address the needs of municipalities, local phone companies, independent service providers and building developers. The entire FTTx line, including the new products, will be exhibited for the first time at the OSP Expo in Chicago, IL June 4-8, 2006 (Stratos booth #67034).

These new products add depth to Stratos' field-proven product line that now includes FTTx dedicated connectors and test instruments. Stratos' engineering excellence and high value manufacturing partner Shinkwang combine to provide leading products that satisfy tough Telcordia reliability standards in service at Korea Telecom, NTT and other leading FTTx customers.

The Stratos FTTx line also includes fiber cabling, inside and outside plant enclosures, splitters, and cabinets -- enabling cost effective solutions for the entire link between the central office and enterprise or home end-users. By combining the best of breed products, supported through local engineering and sales teams, Stratos delivers a customer-oriented, one-stop source for quality outside plant products at highly competitive prices.

HFOC Fiber Connector Series

The Stratos FTTx HFOC fiber connector series is a family of fully ruggedized "drop cable" connectors for single and multiple fiber applications. These connectors allow plug-in installation to single or multiple dwellings. They may be placed in pedestal closures, aerial and buried closures, or equipment located at a fiber distribution hub enclosure or optical network termination unit near customer premises. The physical size of the HFOC easily pulls through conduit and accommodates different cable constructions: oval and round. A visual mating indicator assures installers when a proper connection has been made.

Stratos HFOC products benefit from the company's decades of experience in developing and manufacturing fiber connectors for reliable low-cost installation in hostile environments.

LS420 Optical Light Source for Installation Testing

The LS420 handheld light source and power meter instruments provide all the necessary requirements to measure absolute or relative optical power in the PON. The memory can store 512 measurements with fiber number or location, wavelength, absolute or relative value of insertion loss. All the data is easily exported to Excel, Word or other applications.

This small, robust and low-cost tool is available in seven working wavelengths: 850, 1300, 1310, 1490, 1550, 1625 nm and visible laser source 650 nm. The rechargeable battery ensures field life to a minimum of five years.

Structure for Customer Satisfaction: Large Company Quality with Small Company Flexibility and Service

As a long-time supplier to the telecom and enterprise customer bases, Stratos understands the technical challenges frequently encountered in the course of replacing legacy systems with fiberoptic networks, as well as designing fiberoptic network solutions for new construction. The company has modeled their sales and engineering support organization to provide fast delivery of custom-configured, high-performance networking solutions for indoor and outdoor applications, including existing home developments, buildings, MDUs or businesses.
