PETAH TIKVA, Israel -- Lightscape Networks, an ECI Telecom company (ECI Telecom: NASDAQ:ECIL) and a leading innovator in optical networking, today announced that Companhia de Telecomunicacoes do Brasil Central (CTBC Telecom), a major Brazilian telecom carrier, has selected Lightscape Networks' XDM(tm) converged optical networking platform for deployment in its Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) network backbone. The initial phase of the contract -expected to be implemented over the near term - is valued at $5 million, with potential for further network expansion in the near future. Under the agreement, Lightscape Networks' flagship XDM hybrid optical platform will be used to create a DWDM network that will span 6,500 kilometers in the central-east region of Brazil. This network will connect the major cities in Brazil including Brasilia, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Uberlandia. The deployment includes the XDM-4000, a core optical system for regional networks. In addition, Lightscape Networks' XDM-1000 and XDM-500 will be deployed in several metropolitan parts of the network, enabling future expansion to SDH/SONET in the same network. "While CTBC already provides services for fixed lines and cellular markets, deploying the suite of XDM platforms will enable us to effectively compete in the long-distance arena," said Weber Pimenta de Melo, Managing Superintendent of CTBC Telecom. "Lightscape Networks' flexible solutions allow us to broaden our reach throughout Brazil to offer our customers next generation broadband services." ECI Telecom Ltd. Lightscape Networks Ltd.
