Brasil Telecom announces net revenue of R$2.8B in Q2, a growth of 2.9% in comparison with the previous year

BRASILIA, Brazil -- Brasil Telecom Participacoes S.A. (BOVESPA: BRTP3/BRTP4; NYSE: BRP) registered consolidated net revenue of R$2,823.3 million in the 2Q08, 2.9% up on the 2Q07. Consolidated net income came to R$ 254.4 million, 74.9% higher than in the 2Q07 and equivalent to R$ 0.7019 per share.

EBITDA reached R$1,131.9 million in the 2Q08, 16.4% up on the 2Q07. EBITDA margin stood at 40.1%, 4.6 p.p. higher than the previous year. Operating costs and expenses amounted to R$2,221.7 million, 7.3% lower than the 2Q07.

BrT Movel's net services revenue totaled R$422.5 million, 11.0% higher than in the 2Q07. BrT Movel's EBITDA stood at R$ 29.2 million in the 2Q08, 462.3% up on the same period the year before.BrT Movel reached 5 million mobile users at the end of the 2Q08, 33.1% up on the 2Q07.

ADSL users in service totaled 1,709,800 at the end of the quarter, up by 17.6% year-on-year.

The number of lines in service (LIS) totaled 8.1 million, a growth of 0.8% in comparison with the 1Q08, representing the second consecutive quarter of growth, although 0.3% lower than in the 2Q07.In the 2Q08, Brasil Telecom's investments totaled R$812.4 million. In comparison with the 2Q07, the investments grew 168.5% mainly due to the 3G license acquisition and implementation of the new network. Consolidated net debt stood at R$1.156.7 million, 8.2% less than in the 2Q07.

On April 30th, 2008, Brasil Telecom started offering third generation mobile telephony services: "3GMais no Celular", for cell phones, and "Banda Larga 3GMais no Computador", for computers, becoming the first telco to offer fixed and mobile broadband in a single bundle.
