BARCELONA -- Boingo Wireless, BridgePort Networks, and SIPquest today demonstrated the collaboration of their products as part of a converged MobileVoIP application for automatic device provisioning and seamless MobileVoIP roaming. Seamless MobileVoIP roaming with authentication is an important enabler for the fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) market and will be shown at the 3GSM World Congress, 13-16 February, 2006 in Barcelona, Spain at the BridgePort Networks' stand D49, Hall 1.

The demonstration utilizes the Boingo Wireless Wi-Fi toolkit for handsets, the BridgePort Networks NomadicONE Network Convergence Gateway and the SIPquest Mobile Console client software. The effort demonstrates interoperability amongst several active members in the MobileIGNITE industry association to accelerate the market for FMC applications.

In the demonstration, a user with a dual-mode (cellular and Wi-Fi) smartphone can seamlessly roam between mobile and VoIP when entering into a hot spot. Handsets that have automatically authenticated to the hot spot will be able to use the connection for VoIP or other applications on Wi-Fi.

"As new dual-mode devices arrive and users try to perform increasingly complex and inter-related actions, it's important that the supporting applications are interoperable," said Colby Goff, Boingo Wireless Senior Vice President of Network Strategy and Business Development. "The value to users of our Wi-Fi network increases exponentially if making that broadband connection is easy and simplifies the use of VoIP clients or streaming media applications."
