LONDON -- The latest Band-X colocation rack report shows that despite the recent turmoil in the telecoms industry average prices for rack space have remained remarkably stable in the first half of 2002. The prices listed on the Band-X colocation exchange show only a marginal 5% decline from the world average price of US$940 per rack per month at the end of 2001 to US$894 in June 2002. Only the Asia-Pacific region has seen a noticeable fall in prices with a 13% drop since March 2002. However, the average Asian price of US$1,359 per rack per month is twice the average price in Europe (US$687) and still at a significant premium to prices in North America (US$964). "The price stability seen in the more established markets is unsurprising," said Tim Anker, vice president of colocation at Band-X. "In addition, the convergence of the Asia-Pacific prices towards the world average is to be expected, although it is unlikely that prices in this region will ever really match those in Europe or North America. This is due to the high real estate prices in some Asian cities and continued high price of bandwidth in the region." Band-X Ltd.
