RUESCHLIKON, Switzerland -- Albis Optoelectronics AG, the leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of innovative photodiodes for analog and digital applications, today announced the release of the X-tra Small photodiode product line, a new series of photodiodes that is small in size (300 x 350 micron) and low in price. With this latest portfolio addition, Albis extends its design library to more than 20 photodiodes, the largest bare die photodiode portfolio available on the market today.

The new chips incorporate the latest photodiode technologies offering high responsivity, low capacitance and low bias voltages of typically 1.5 V and occupy less space on TO-headers thanks to the small chip footprint. The products are qualified in accordance with Telcordia GR-468 and target the growing FTTx and 10G markets.

The XS product line consists of three new designs:

  • PDCS80T-XS, a photodiode chip having a 5 GHz bandwidth for digital and analog FTTx receivers and 4G Fiber Channel modules

  • PDCS60T-XS, a photodiode chip with a large 60 micron active area, a low capacitance of 200 fF and a 10 GHz bandwidth targeting 10GBase-LRM applications

  • PDCS32T-XS, a photodiode chip having a 12 GHz bandwidth addressing 10G Ethernet, 10G Fiber Channel and OC-192/STM-64 applications

“Our qualified technology provides an optimum trade-off between size of the detector area and low capacitance”, states Markus Blaser, Albis CTO. “This results in better sensitivity and larger bandwidths, a necessity for long wavelength multimode applications as covered by the emerging 10GBase-LRM standard.”
