MINNEAPOLIS and HANNOVER, Germany -- ADC (NASDAQ: ADCT; www.adc.com) today introduced two-pair G.shdsl modems, new additions to its family of WorldDSL G.S products. For carriers that require a cost-effective way to deploy high-speed broadband services, the WorldDSL G.S access devices support line powering, double bandwidth up to 4.6 Mbps and increase reach up to 40 percent. The WorldDSL G.S modems will be featured in ADC's all-new mobile exhibit, parked outside Hall 27 at CeBIT 2004, March 18-24 in Hannover, Germany.

Designed for the diverse telecommunications needs of global markets, the WorldDSL G.S modems are fully G.shdsl compliant including 36/72 time-slot operation and all required performance monitoring statistics. These new modems include a 10/100 Ethernet interface as well as existing E1 and data interfaces (V.35). Each WorldDSL G.S modem is software selectable as a communication master or communication slave, so any two units can be used for a point-to-point circuit.

"With the new WorldDSL G.S modems, carriers can take advantage of standards-based interoperability and enhanced capabilities to meet the increasing demands of their customers," said Mike Pratt, president of the Wireline Systems Business Unit for ADC. "These access devices allow service providers to deliver business data services over traditional TDM or Ethernet connections, leveraging their existing network assets."

The WorldDSL G.S modems are part of a fully managed system, interfacing with a VT100 compatible terminal or a PC. The units can be managed via their local craft port or a central management card installed in a central office (CO) shelf. ADC's Stargazer, Windows or UNIX-based SNMP management software can be used to provision the system, collect alarm and performance data, and conduct diagnostic tests locally or from a remote management station. In any of these modes, the remote unit can be programmed and managed through the CO, minimizing travel to the outdoor site.

The new WorldDSL G.S modems are the latest additions to a comprehensive portfolio of Wireline products for service providers and private networks. The portfolio also includes LoopStar Line-Powered Wi-Fi solutions, the Megabit Modem 702G2 family of DSL-based customer premise equipment, the Campus-RS* system for a wide range of private networking environments and a complete line of indoor and outdoor enclosures and enterprise and network management solutions.

In a separate release:

ADC (NASDAQ: ADCT; www.adc.com) today announced the addition of a new G.shdsl, 4-wire megabit modem to its industry-leading family of DSL-based customer premises equipment (CPE). The new MM702G2 provides an affordable, high performance 4.6 Mbps connection over copper to support LAN-to-LAN or LAN-to-WAN solutions. It is designed for small to medium-sized businesses and branch offices that require cost-effective Ethernet connectivity. The MM702G2 will be featured in ADC's all-new mobile exhibit, parked outside Hall 27 at CeBIT 2004, March 18-24 in Hannover, Germany.

The versatile MM702G2 can be used back-to-back for LAN extension applications or as an access modem to connect DSLAMS. This easy-to-install product, that combines a WAN interface with complete bridging and routing functionality, also supports 2-wire G.shdsL at speeds up to 2.3 Mbps.

"The Megabit Modem 702G2 offers a high-speed, low-cost solution for all types of enterprise and campus environments," said Mike Pratt, president of the Wireline Systems Business Unit for ADC. "In addition to the product's superior reach, the MM702G2 provides a full suite of routing capabilities that allow service providers to deploy these modems in sophisticated IP-based networks with ease."

Unlike other DSL CPE, the MM702G2 includes easy session management software that provides for the precise control of security, performance and management of users and resources per session. This enables service providers to offer additional services and class of service for Internet access, private ATM networks or connections to video servers or voice gateways.

The new Megabit Modem702G2 is the latest addition to a comprehensive portfolio of Wireline products for service providers and private networks. The portfolio also includes LoopStar Line-Powered Wi-Fi solutions, the WorldDSL G.S (G.shdsl) family of high-speed access devices, the Campus-RS(tm) system for a wide range of private networking environments and a complete line of indoor and outdoor enclosures and enterprise and network management solutions.

In a separate release:

ADC (NASDAQ: ADCT; www.adc.com) introduced today its new carrier class LoopStar* line-powered Wi-Fi solutions that provide a low-cost and easy-to-deploy approach to build a network of Wi-Fi hotspots. Supporting ADSL and G.shdsl access technologies, the LoopStar Wi-Fi products provide line-powering capability that allows the access points to be located where needed when commercial power is not readily available. The LoopStar Wi-Fi solutions will be showcased in ADC's all-new mobile exhibit, parked outside Hall 27 at CeBIT 2004, March 18-24 in Hannover, Germany.

This LoopStar solution features the industry's first DSL, line-powered Wi-Fi access points that allow service providers to fully leverage the value of their copper infrastructure and network assets to extend wireline broadband into the wireless world. With these ADC Wi-Fi access points, service providers can save up to 70 percent in first construction costs by eliminating the need to obtain commercial power. In addition, installation time is simplified and reduced, and access point location is optimized for maximum RF coverage.

ADC's Wi-Fi solutions apply line powering over ADSL or G.shdsl transport to the Wi-Fi access points by leveraging the customer's existing BBDLC or DSLAM capacity. These products also feature temperature-hardened housings that can be installed anywhere for maximum RF coverage.

"With the exploding growth of the global Wi-Fi access market, service providers are looking for ways to economically capture new revenue from this opportunity," said Mike Pratt, president of the Wireline Systems Business Unit for ADC. "ADC's LoopStar Wi-Fi solutions allow service providers to leverage their existing assets to deploy public Wi-Fi hotspots without the high costs of obtaining commercial power. Power and installation barriers that have prevented deployment are removed and a competitive advantage in the wireless market is accelerated."

For the DSLAM application, the LoopStar Wi-Fi solution consists of two ends: a shelf-based powering module deployed from a standard 3190 mechanics shelf, such as ADC's HMS-318, and an outdoor or indoor Wi-Fi Access Point. High-speed access is delivered over the copper pairs via DSL to the access point. The solution's main features include:

  • Line powering from any BBDLC and DSLAM supporting ADSL and G.shdsl transport;

  • Low profile indoor access point packaging;

  • Outdoor temperature-hardened access point housings that provide maximum placement versatility; and

  • Telco ready - CE and IEC compliant

In addition, ADC offers the SG-1 Service Gateway that provides access manager functionality for the LoopStar span-powered Wi-Fi solutions. The SG-1 Gateway helps service providers deliver enhanced services such as content-on-demand, dynamic bandwidth management, customized home pages and allows them to authenticate Wi-Fi users. By supporting Wi-Fi, dial-up and DSL services in a convergent environment, the SG-1 Gateway enables service providers to add Wi-Fi access without the complexities of changing their established customer sign-on procedures.

The LoopStar Wi-Fi solutions are the latest additions to a comprehensive portfolio of Wireline products for service providers and private networks. The portfolio also includes the WorldDSL G.S (G.shdsl) family of high-speed access devices, the Megabit Modem family of DSL-based customer premise equipment and a complete line of indoor and outdoor enclosures and enterprise and network management solutions.
