Accelerating Digital Services in LATAM

In today’s digital economies, IP networks direct compute power to specific areas, whether it’s cities and buildings or individual end user terminals. Continued evolution of the IP transport layer helps reduce congestion, minimizes latencies and provides higher throughput for meeting new requirements.

As a result, countries are undertaking digital strategies to expand their infrastructures based on IP networks that are more efficient and easier to manage. In this article, we look closely at the design and role of intelligent IP networks in terms of ensuring cost efficiencies for 5G and promoting a super edge and ultra-bandwidth backbone through greater automation.

IP networks: Bridge to the digital world

The Internet and its IP-based architecture has long supported unique innovations along with evolving IT capabilities. However, in the current era of unprecedented advances, new connectivity capabilities are needed. To that end, operators are collaborating to build intelligent IP networks that provide faster throughput.

Today, advances based on IPv6 can provide technical methods at the execution layer to optimally arrange resources and then implement them on the physical network. In this scenario, IPv6 essentially functions as a bridge to new digital capabilities, including 5G cost efficiencies, an all-service super edge and ultra-bandwidth converged cores.

In addition to handling greater complexity, integrated networks must be uniquely tailored to meet specific service goals based on ultra-high throughput and the right logical combinations. These networks also need to be highly intelligent to transform end user requests and intentions into the resource configurations and network topologies that quickly deliver the desired outcomes.

Programmable networks prioritize packets for traffic-shaping and improve operational flexibility by separating the underlying physical hardware from the control software. These networks monitor conditions in real time and instantly adjust to changes, a process that’s just not possible with traditional network approaches. For example, in terms of cloud services, the IP network should demonstrate capabilities to seamlessly extend connectivity from on-premise enterprise hardware to multi-cloud deployments. Huawei’s Intelligent Cloud-Network solution provides those intelligent cloud network capabilities, drives DICT growth for carriers and ensures new levels of cloud-network convergence.

Huawei’s cloud-network solution extends enterprise connectivity directly to multi-cloud through its unified gateway, 5G transport, super edge/central office router and a large-capacity backbone router. The company believes that more efficient and easy-to-manage IP networks will drive the next generation of solution outcomes. These include cost-efficient 5G bearing, a super Edge and an ultra-bandwidth backbone driven by automation.

Intelligent converged backbone networks

Today’s technologies rely on numerous independent networks that provide constantly changing services. A converged backbone network monitors service variations in real time and instantly makes adjustments for new integrations. In addition to simpler provisioning, a converged backbone optimizes network paths allowing IT teams to use open programmability and fluidly assign resources. As a result, carriers can customize network services based on operational and management needs, simplify network deployments and accelerate service rollouts to meet business goals.

Following these innovations and to further improve 5G and edge synchronization, Huawei core routers are based on an orthogonal design with line cards directly connected to switch fabric, thus eliminating upper limits on network backplanes. An orthogonal architecture ensures that one converged network can handle all processing requests and meets the evolutionary demands of networks for the next decade.

The company’s intelligent cloud-network solution secures network migrations integrated and services a range of verticals, from government, healthcare and education to heavy industries. It also sets the stage to implement a new model for networks-on-demand using enhanced IPv6.

Automatic network management, improved O&M efficiency

A smarter IP transport creates a foundation for LATAM’s digital economies and boosts them further using the best technologies. Next generation IP (IPv6) enables new resource configuration schemes in networks. In addition to providing an all-service super edge and ultra-bandwidth converged cores, IPv6 functions as a bridge to new digital capabilities.

The next generation protocol, Segment Routing over IPv6 (SRv6) defines paths, latencies and bandwidths through improved programmability. As a result, administrators can quickly arrange and adjust IP network services for uninterrupted connections while business teams can independently design and provision specific services when necessary.

Programmable networks, convergent backbone networks and smarter IP transport networks are all critical components to accelerate 5G, FTTH and cloud deployments in LATAM. According to recent research, fixed broadband subscriptions in LATAM will expand by 5.9% in 2022 to 102.1 million, or 50.4% of occupied households, and FTTH will reach one in five Latin American households by the end of 20221. Enterprise cloud services will steadily increase its subscriber base due to higher port speeds, self-service features, lower latencies and committed bandwidths.
