WAKE FOREST, N.C. -- Touchnc.net, a subsidiary of Wake Electric Membership Corporation, is offering satellite-delivered broadband Internet access as a distributor of WildBlue service.

With access speeds that can be comparable to DSL and cable modem services, WildBlue allows users to retrieve information and access rich content that is not available through dial-up modems.

It provides a continuous online connection, so subscribers don't tie up phone lines, and the faster speeds save users time and businesses money.

Its target customers are in the areas of the state where high speed Internet access was unavailable. Touchnc.net is the WildBlue provider in all of North Carolina, southern Virginia and northern South Carolina.

"We're excited to provide a broadband offering that not only reaches residents in the most rural parts of our community as well as more populated areas," said Jim Mangum, CEO of Wake Electric.

Touchnc.net offers several service packages to accommodate various user needs, including a residential sestarting at $49.95 per month, and a small office/home office package starting at $69.95 per month. The WildBlue satellite broadband equipment and professional installation is less than $300.

WildBlue uses a 26-inch satellite minidish for two-way satellite connectivity to the Internet. Cable or phone lines are not needed.
