PEMBROKE, Bermuda, and HARRISBURGH, Pa. -- Tyco Electronics Corporation, a unit of Tyco International Ltd. (NYSE: TYC; LSE: TYI; BSX: TYC), and The Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. today announced completion of a licensing agreement for the production of AMP LIGHTRAY MPX™ interconnection system products. In doing so, both companies have agreed to multi-source this unique fiber optic backplane interconnection product line, which is used in the telecommunications and advanced networking markets. With over 3 million lines sold worldwide, the LIGHTRAY MPX™ optical interface is quickly becoming the defacto standard for system level applications requiring dense fiber-to-fiber blindmate system interconnection.

“This agreement strengthens the LIGHTRAY MPX™ interconnection system as a solution for the increased demand for system-level packaging, and the multiple source requirements of the communications marketplace”, said Glenn Moore, vice president, Fiber Optic Group of Tyco Electronics. “We are pleased to add The Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. as a licensee for this product, based upon their expertise in fiber optics and MT ferrule technologies. Furukawa Electric joins the growing family of leading MT ferrule suppliers who have licensed the LIGHTRAY MPX interconnection system to better ensure increased future success for the product”, he added.
