HONG KONG -- TANDBERG Television, part of the Ericsson Group (NASDAQ:ERIC), will be out in force at CommunicAsia (Singapore, June 17-20, 2008 – booth #3H3-01) demonstrating new and existing solutions designed to enable customers to deliver next generation, personalized entertainment offerings and increase revenues. A market leading player in the Asian market, TANDBERG Television’s award-winning solutions are enabling the Asian television industry to fulfill its digital destiny.

Moving Content – From Acquisition to Delivery

TANDBERG Television will demonstrate its broad range of contribution and distribution solutions – from ‘Acquisition to Delivery’. Included in this range are TANDBERG Television MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC encoders including Voyager DSNG encoders, the latest DVB-S2 satellite modulator, IP video gateway products, a full range of professional receivers, and control and management platforms for both linear and non-linear content distribution.

The centerpiece of this product range is TANDBERG Television's new professional receiver, the RX8310, designed specifically to smooth the digital transition and improve programming reception. Other products on show include the latest EN8090 MPEG-4 AVC HD encoder configured for low delay contribution quality applications, Clarus™, the powerful encoding pre-processing solution, and the RX1290 decoding content between 1.5Mbps (MPEG-4 AVC SD) up to 90 Mbps (MPEG-2 HD 4:2:2).

Broadcast Head-end

TANDBERG Television will show its innovative end-to-end IP head-end solution, the iSIS 8000®, which comprises the MX8400 multiplexer, nCompass control v6.0, E5700 series MPEG-2 and EN8000 series MPEG-4 AVC encoders, and the iPlex™ video processing platform. The flexibility of TANDBERG Television’s IP head-end continues to grow with multi-format video for hybrid head-ends, more transport streams per multiplexer, remote statistical multiplexing, higher throughputs, and IP and ASI interfaces on key system components.

TANDBERG Television continues to lead the market in encoding technology with the release of its latest SD and HD MPEG-4 AVC encoders, delivering the best possible picture quality in real world applications. The company will also be showcasing its market leading MPEG-4 SD/HD solutions with a complete end-to-end iSIS 8000 IP broadcast head-ends demonstration, featuring any compression format to any type of delivery network.

Furthermore, TANDBERG Television will have on show its award-winning EdgeQAM. The next-generation EQ8096 offers unprecedented density, high reliability, low power consumption, and designed-in redundancy features. It enables a clear migration to IP through its support of the CableLabs DOCSIS 3.0 and the M-CMTS standards. Featuring 96 QAM channels in an integrated two rack-unit chassis for superior density, the EQ8096 provides cable operators with the flexibility to launch a combination of switched digital video (SDV), video-on-demand (VOD), broadcast television or high-speed data services simultaneously in shared frequencies.

IPTV and Mobile Convergence

TANDBERG Television has an industry leading video processing platform specifically designed to meet the needs of telcos. Multi-functional, highly dense and modular, TANDBERG Television’s IPTV and Mobile TV solutions continue to be deployed by the majority of operators around the world. The company will be demonstrating a broad range of market leading solutions for IPTV, including the latest development of the multiple award-winning iPlex™ video processing platform, including second generation integrated MPEG-4 AVC transcoding.

With over 225 IPTV deployments worldwide, and customers such as Du in Dubai already deploying transcoding, TANDBERG Television continues to lead the way in terms of technology advancements while understanding customer requirements for high quality and cost effective solutions. On show will be the combined TANDBERG Television and Ericsson IPTV offering with solutions designed to enable the creation and delivery of truly converged and personalized television experiences.

The award-winning iPlex also serves as the encoding solution for mobile TV, under the brand of mPlex™. The mPlex Mobile TV encoder is capable of handling up to 8 encoder modules in a 1RU chassis, which provides a high performance video compression engine for a hybrid mobile IPTV ecosystem. Leveraging the strength of the TANDBERG Television and Ericsson Mobile TV capabilities, operators will be able to better utilize economies of scale, further capitalizing on the increasingly converging network to deliver a compelling, personalized television experience.

Video Solutions Software

The world's leading broadcasters, network operators and content owners use TANDBERG Television's open software solutions to create, manage, deliver and monetize advanced media and on-demand solutions across ‘Any Platform to Any Device™’. The company will showcase its currently deployed solutions for workflow automation, on-demand content production, targeted advertising insertion, content distribution and VOD back-office. These solutions have proven strengths in enabling nPVR, Time-shifted TV, VOD and personalized advertising services among operators.

A feature of this will be an overview of the company's next generation MediaPath® Secure Content Delivery System. The new system offers content providers, network operators and their affiliates a scalable, end-to-end solution for the secure point to multi-point delivery of non-linear digital SD and HD TV programs, as well as any other file-based content including VOD programs, advertising, music, and games. Using MediaPath, media assets can be delivered to head-ends serving set-top boxes, PCs, and mobile media players. Multiple delivery options include MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC. The new system offers a performance boost over its predecessor, and supports the simultaneous delivery of content over satellite and terrestrial networks. MediaPath enables content providers and cable, telco and satellite operators to closely collaborate to deliver more types of content, in more formats, more efficiently.
