CHATSWORTH, Calif. -- MRV Communications, Inc. (Pink Sheets:MRVC.pk - News) (“MRV” or the “Company”), a leading provider of optical communications network infrastructure equipment and integration and managed services, today unveiled plans for a standards-based 100Gbps optical transport solution that boosts network capacity over existing fiber infrastructures and enables increased bandwidth for mobile backhaul, cloud-based services, data center interconnection and more.

MRV Optical Communications Systems’ new 100Gbps solution will allow service providers to ease the transition from 10Gbps and meet the projected capacity demands from the onslaught of next-generation services. A standards-based Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) optical system, the 100Gbps platform will encompass DP-QPSK modulation and coherent detection technologies to ensure backward compatibility with existing network infrastructure, and is positioned to provide metro, regional and long-haul networks with a mix of services of up to 100Gbps.

“Internet exchanges and datacenters are the new central offices for the Internet age as they are the source of the data that provides the rich Internet services in demand by broadband and mobile users,” said Andrew Schmitt, Directing Analyst, Optical, at Infonetics Research. “While 100Gbps transmission by big telcos draws much attention, equally important is the connectivity between public and private datacenters as these links often bypass the services of traditional carriers. Today, capex growth by datacenter and dark fiber providers outstrips that of traditional carriers and by 2013 we think 100Gbps will be very much in demand.”

CHATSWORTH, Calif. -- MRV Communications, Inc. (OTC Pink Sheets:MRVC.pk - News) (“MRV” or the “Company”), a leading provider of optical communications network infrastructure equipment and integration and managed services, announced today that the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) has extended its existing, longtime partnership with MRV and plans to deploy MRV’s new 100Gbps optical transport solution in order to increase network capacity over its existing fiber infrastructure.

AMS-IX is one of the largest and fastest-growing Internet exchanges in the world. At present all major Dutch Internet companies and many international ISPs have established connections with AMS-IX. In addition, organizations such as RIPE NCC and NL Domain Registry System are also connected to AMS-IX.

Currently, AMS-IX has deployed MRV’s 10Gbps Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) optical systems in its core network to enable backbone transport solutions which connect Internet exchange services. As part of AMS-IX’s migration path to 100Gbps, the service provider plans to shift its core network gradually from 10Gbps to 100Gbps interfaces and extend 100Gbps capacity over its existing fiber infrastructure. During this transition, AMS-IX is ensured of a smooth migration path and backward compatibility to its existing services and networking solutions because MRV’s standards-based 100Gbps solution encompasses DP-QPSK modulation and coherent detection technologies.

“AMS-IX needed 100Gbps years ago—both for our own network as well as for our connected networks—so my support of 100Gbps over 40Gpbs was mostly need-driven. For our customers on location in our datacenters or close by we plan to introduce the new highest port speeds this month. Our own core will follow as soon as MRV OCS’ systems are available,” said Henk Steenman, CTO for AMS-IX, who is also one of the driving forces for 100GbE in the HSSG of the IEEE standards community. “MRV OCS’ smooth migration path and its highest standards-based optical system were major criterion in our selection process.”
