Iolon Appoints John Clark as CEO

iolon, Inc., a designer andmanufacturer of tunable optical devices, today announced that it hasappointed industry veteran John H. Clark as president, CEO and chairman ofthe board. In this position, Clark will oversee all aspects of thecompany¹s product design, manufacturing, marketing and sales.

John Clark comes to iolon with over 30 years of senior executive andtechnical experience in the laser and fiber optics industries. Immediatelyprior to joining iolon, Clark was vice president and general manager of theOpto-Electronics Unit of Scientific-Atlanta. Clark held a variety of seniorexecutive positions, including chief operating officer and vice president ofresearch and development at ATx Telecom Systems before its purchase byScientific-Atlanta. Clark was a founder of Amoco Laser Company, thepredecessor of ATx, where he spent nine years in senior technical andbusiness management positions that included general manager of the ALCTelecommunications Group and director of research, technology & systemsdevelopment.

Previously, Clark held a joint appointment as assistant professor ofchemistry at the University of California, Berkeley and a senior staffscientist in the Materials & Molecular Research Division at LawrenceBerkeley Laboratory. At Berkeley, Clark was a Sloan Fellow and DreyfusTeacher-Scholar. He started his career as a J. Robert Oppenheimer ResearchFellow and assistant group leader for laser chemistry at Los Alamos NationalLaboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Clark earned a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University ofCalifornia, Berkeley, and a B.A. with majors in physics and in chemistryfrom the University of California, Santa Barbara. Clark has authored andco-authored over 50 research papers, articles and book chapters on lasers,spectroscopy, photochemistry and kinetics. Over 10 patents covering laserisotope separation, laser design and manufacturing, and nonlinear opticshave resulted from his work.
