RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. -- Overture Networks, a leading developer of converged packet access platforms, today announced its seventh patent has been granted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. This latest patent, U.S. Patent No 7,069,512 on "Command Line Interface with Indication of Network Element Status" enables operators of Overture Networks' ISG family of products to quickly ascertain the operational status of nodes in their networks. Other patents held by Overture Networks are in the pseudo- wire and protected switching ring fields.

As Ethernet is deployed in metropolitan and access networks, and Service Level Agreements are offered on these networks, there is a strong need for operators to quickly diagnose and remedy any issues in the network. With Overture Networks' ISG products, the patented Command Line Interface (CLI) status indication helps them achieve this goal. The CLI status indication is a simple, unobtrusive visual indication of an issue requiring attention. Operators can determine at a glance the severity of the issue based on Overture Networks' unique fault classification identifications, making problem isolation and resolution faster and simpler.

Quick, reliable, easy to understand indications of status in a network are crucial to day-to-day operations. The new CLI status indication is an effective means of displaying network element status in a way that is both easy to see and understand. Using this new status indication gives operators the ability to see the network or element status even when autonomous messaging is disabled. The CLI status indication is displayed in a way that is universally compatible with terminals as it does not use non-displayable characters. Operators can quickly see the status of a network element, and they can log terminal sessions normally and not have to contend with non-displayable characters in the logs.

"With management of large networks becoming more and more complex, the simple elegance of the CLI status indication is a welcome addition," said Prayson Pate, Overture Networks' vice president of engineering. "By providing better and simpler indications of network and element status Overture Networks has given operators better tools to recognize and correct network and element issues."
