NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Extending its cost-effective platform for IP/MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based services, Tellabs is introducing the Tellabs 8600 managed edge system to North American customers. The Tellabs 8600 system is an access-oriented edge platform that delivers IP virtual private network (IP-VPN) and Ethernet services more reliably and more flexibly than any other platform in the industry. The system enables telecom service providers to deploy entirely managed networks, which improve revenue opportunities, provide guaranteed service level agreements (SLAs) and lower capital and operating expenses.

New revenue opportunities with guaranteed SLAs

There are two often overlooked prerequisites for guaranteeing SLAs:

-- The extension of MPLS into the access network as far as necessary to overcome bandwidth scarcity, and

-- A network management system that accurately measures performance.

The Tellabs 8600 system is unique in its space because it meets these prerequisites. It is the only platform that enables MPLS in the access or indeed all the way to the customer premise. Tellabs can uniquely offer hierarchical MPLS for layer 2 services such as Ethernet and for layer 3 services such as IP VPNs. This hierarchical model is necessary for scalable and efficient MPLS access deployment. Furthermore, the Tellabs 8600 system offers an extraordinary network management platform that enables provisioning and measuring of complex network implementations with "point and click" simplicity.
